How To Choose A Pair Of Boxing Glove

Do an online search of boxing gloves, and you’ll get more results returned than you know what to do with! First of all, you need to determine the purpose of your gloves. Are they for full contact boxing? Martial arts sparring? Training? Bag work? Aerobic kick boxing? Establish which kind of fighting you plan on participating in first. Then look at the various styles, sizes and weights.

First, go to any sporting goods store or eBay and pick up a stock pair of gloves. But will they protect you and will they help you to become a better fighter? Or are they basically worthless? Many fighters will tell you that leather gloves are the best. They may cost a little more (likely), but you will get a quality pair that will provide better support and will last longer. Note: For the purpose of this discussion we will assume you’re not a fitness class or hobbyist boxer.

You truly will get what you pay for. But that’s ok in some cases. If you’re not in the Golden Gloves, or plan on being a contestant on The Contender, then you may not need $400 gloves. But if you spend $15 on a pair, don’t expect to be the next Oscar De la Hoya. If you’re serious about the sport, and aren’t just trying it out to see if you like it, or even just periodically hitting the bag as a hobby, then invest in a good pair of gloves.

The weight of the glove is also important. You will be able to find weights ranging from 10 to 20 ounces. In most professional boxing matches, the fighters usually wear 10 oz gloves. However, for training purposes, most gloves weigh 12 oz, 14 oz, and 16 oz. The heavier the glove, the more protection it offers. For beginners, 14 oz and 16 oz gloves are recommended. For sparring purposes, 16 oz boxing gloves are standard.

Get the right size. Most gloves are sized small, medium and large sizes. On average, men will wear large, women will wear medium and youth will wear small. Of course this will vary if one has exceptionally large or small mitts. Some manufacturers also vary slightly, but for the most part the sizing is fairly standardized.

Another factor to consider is the closure on the glove; do you prefer Velcro or laces? The classic style boxing gloves that you always see in prize fights are tied on with laces. Just like lacing up your shoes, laces provide a nice snug fit. It takes two people to get lace up gloves on.

The advantage to buying a pair of boxing gloves with Velcro straps is that you can easily put on the gloves, and remove them yourself. If you have ever tried to lace a pair of gloves when nobody is around, it is almost impossible. For your average person and general training purposes, gloves with Velcro straps are very acceptable.

Buying a decent pair of boxing / sparring gloves isn’t too difficult. It just takes a little more thought that simply making a run to your favorite sporting goods store and picking up a pair that is on sale. Determine which type will suit you best. Now show me some combos! Check out our store’s Boxing Gloves section for a complete list of boxing gloves available.

Muay Thai Boxing

Muay Thai boxing is a sport that has been around for thousands of years, and is still practiced today as a professional sport as well as a hobby. It is the national sport of Thailand, and is practiced by millions of Thai men. It is often compared to Thailand in the way that soccer is compared to Ecuador, or hockey to Canada. If you’ve ever watched a match on television, you know that it is an extremely brutal sport. If you’re interested in martial arts at all, it is important to become familiar with Muay Thai, since it is a very popular form. Here are some of the basics of the sport.

A Muay Thai match focuses as much on ceremony as it does on beating the spit out of the opponent. Before each match, the two fighters do their opening rituals, which usually reflect the training of their masters, or the schools at which they learned their fighting technique. Since Muay Thai is often a deeply religious sport, some of the fighters will pray by themselves or with their coaches before getting started, in an effort to increase their ability. Next is the Wai Kru ritual, in which the fighters circle each other around the ring, which signifies sealing it off for the fight.

Muay Thai focuses on 8 parts of the body that act as striking points. These are the hands, shins, elbows and knees. Most martial arts use fists and feet primarily, so this alone sets Muay Thai apart. You often see the fighters grapple immediately, locking their heads with each other. Then, they trade blows with their knees, striking each other in the stomach and chest. Sometimes they will trade blows for the entire match, leaving their chests bloody and tender, beaten to a pulp. Besides keeping the entire Thai world captivated with matches and tournaments, Muay boxing has also provided a good deal of entertainment for the western world. Many matches are broadcasted on channels in the USA, and the movies Ong Bak and The Protector have brought about even more heightened interest in the sport, with the Muay Thai master Tony Jaa.

Like most martial arts, you can find training almost anywhere. But if you want to truly learn the sport and become the next great Muay Thai fighter, you might need to go to Thailand and find an authentic trainer to teach you the fine art! The gear is designed to protect the body parts that are exposed to the opponent in combat.

The special kick boxing equipment and gear has evolved since the introduction of the game to meet the requirements of the combatants. The special boxing shorts enable free movements that come from the free style kicks that are part of the sport. The fabric used and the fit are such that they facilitate optimum and quick movements, without any discomfort. The mouth guard that is also a part of the special kick boxing equipment and gear is designed to protect the combatant from injury to the jaw and mouth region. Boxing Match To Decide The Better Man

Boxing Match Can Determine Champs Boxing is a sport that has been around for centuries. A boxing match consists of two participants, usually men, who face each other in a battle of fists and speed until either one of them is knocked out or until the set number of fighting rounds has been completed. But there is much more to a boxing match and this sport’s history for that matter. It is more than just a series of punches and jabs to land a blow or to ducking and weaving to try to evade the blows.

While the sport actually does date back to the beginnings of civilization and competition, some of the most intriguing aspects of this sport have come about in the last few decades. In the modern day matches of today, sometimes a boxing match can seem like it is more about the outrageous characters that come into the ring than it is about the skill and sport of boxing.

However, a flamboyant or controversial professional boxer is not all that makes the sport interesting. In fact, there are also constant rumors of corruption within the industry, gambling issues and charges of matches being rigged as well as the claims of ties to organized crime. But, regardless of the intrigue behind the scenes, for most people this sport match grips them and brings them alive in the moment as their favorite or hated competitor faces-off. Of course, the fans know full well that in the next few moments, one of the boxers in the ring could be awarded with the glory of victory or the shame of defeat. Sometimes tragedy will befall a competitor, which is always a possibility that lurks in the dark corners of the matches.

All of these elements combine to make a boxing match one of the most exciting sporting events to be attended, at least for those who are big fans of the sport. Of course, there are many critics of this sport who are not in the least excited by the prospects of a fighter, even one willing to do battle and being permanently hurt just for the sake of a sport. But, it should be remembered that a professional boxing match should never be compared to a street fight or a barroom brawl. There are strict rules that the boxers must adhere to in order to reduce the incidence of serious injury to the participants and also to keep the action going so that it holds the interest of the fans.

The rules of this sport do vary to some degree between the different boxing organizations. There are specific amateur rules, which are also Olympic rules, and there are professional rules. However, there are even some differences in rules between the different professional organizations of this sport. So before a major bout takes place, a meeting is generally held to clarify which set of rules will govern the match.

There are some things that are never allowed during a professional boxing match, such as: head butting, hitting below the belt, striking an opponent who is “down” on the canvas, using elbows and forearms, kicking, biting of ears (official rule determined thanks to Mike Tyson) or grabbing the ropes.
